  16. Court justice and prominent social reformer; in New York City.
  17. Following World War II, Gabel helped lead the fight against
  18. racial discrimination in housing. In 1988 she was acquitted on
  19. charges of lowering alimony and child-support payments of the
  20. boyfriend of Bess Myerson, once the city's cultural-affairs
  21. commissioner, in exchange for Myerson's hiring of her daughter
  22. Sukhreet Gabel.</p>
